Is Lipodiisolve Safe?

The American Society of Aesthetic Lipodissolve [ASAL]
objects to the inclusion of "Lipodissolve" in the recent
warning against injection therapy (MESOTHERAPY) for
localized fat reduction issued by the American Society of
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery [ASAPS].  The procedure,
Lipodissolve was introduced by the founders of ASAL in 2001
as distinct from "Mesotherapy".

The ASAL took care to include ingredients which were safe
and whose mechanism of action was understood. The ASAL
diligently limited training only to physicians and their
nurses to perform the procedure. The ASAL and its original
cohort, "Network Lipolysis", thus trained more than 300
physician in Europe, and so far, more than 200 physicians
in the United States.   ASAPS is incorrect in stating that
there are no data relative to the effectiveness and safety
of the procedure.

As it relates to Lipodissolve, several thousand treatment
sessions have been reported in European and American peer
reviewed journals demonstrating: a] objective evidence of
improvement, based on actual measurements and pictures, in
approximately 90% of the patients, and b] a paucity of
serious side effects.1-4,6,7 Serious side effects reported
with liposuction such as death, fluid overload, epinephrine
and lidocaine toxicity, thrombosis, fat embolism and
complications of general anesthesia have not been reported
with Lipodissolve therapy.5

The main ingredient in the Lipodissolve formula is
phosphatidylcholine [PC], a lipid. It is dissolved in a
bile salt [deoxycholate], which is how it exists in bile
where it helps to breakdown the ingested fat cells and
digests fat on a daily basis.  When injected in to the
unwanted superficial body fat, it similarly breaks down fat
cells and "digests fat", as it does naturally in proximal
duodenum. In the subcutaneous area the dead fat cells are
then gradually removed by the body's physiologic repair
mechanisms, the same way as after any trauma or even after
liposuction which leaves dead fat cells in the area to be
removed by similar physiologic processes. PC along with
other phospholipids are significant dietary source of
essential fatty acids. Mammalian cell membranes are
primarily composed of PC and other phospholipids mixed with
cholesterol esters and salts to maintain fluidity. In other
words it is not some foreign or toxic substance.

ASAPS's statement that this "procedure is not FDA approved"
is misleading. FDA approves drugs and devices, not
procedures. ASAL maintains that there is no FDA approval
requirement relative to phosphatidylcholine for two
reasons. One, it is a "supplement" and as such has been
used for years for liver health, cholesterol and other
possible benefits. Supplements do not require FDA approval
and can be administered by injection, (as are vitamins and
minerals as in Meyer's cocktail, intravenous nutrition or
hyper-alimentation consisting of amino acids, vitamins,
minerals, lipids, and others. Second, in Lipodissolve, the
ingredients are mixed by a compounding pharmacist upon a
physician's order for specific a patient, which does not
require FDA approval [FDA Modernization Act Section 503a
Compounding Pharmacy]. Lipodissolve is not a surgical
procedure. Accordingly, ASAL has compiled an advisory board
that includes highly credentialed physicians with diverse
but relevant backgrounds in the fields of dermatology,
aesthetic surgery and internal medicine.

These individuals are experienced clinicians, speakers,
writers, researchers and teachers, and provide advice
regarding the procedure and its evolution. They conduct
training workshops for other physicians in the U.S. So far
the North American advisers have performed more than 2,000
Lipodissolve procedures with satisfactory results in more
than 90% of the patients - without any serious side
effects. The ASAL has an on going monitoring process to
record these events.

Drink Your Way To Good Health

If you really want to have great health, you can drink your
way to it. Water is the substance of life. The majority of
people on earth are dehydrated, and they don't even realize
it. In fact, nutritionists report that about 80% of the
people on earth are dehydrated. Before you assume that you
are not in that group, because you don't feel thirsty, you
need to realize that thirst really has nothing to do with
dehydration.

You may also believe that you get enough water because you
drink beverages that have water as an ingredient, such as
coffee, tea, and sodas. Even though these beverages are
made with water, when they are ingested, they actually
cause us to lose water! You don't need other beverages -
what you need is water. Those other beverages should be a
once-in-a-while thing, not a daily thing!

Even though we can't survive under water, we are water
oriented. 70% of the earth is covered by water, and
two-thirds of our bodies consist of water. Approximately
83% of our blood is water, 75% of our muscles are water,
22% of our bones are water, and 74% of our brains are
water. Our brains even float around in water!

With these percentages, it should be obvious as to why we
require water to live. The water in our bodies is lost
every minute of every day - through sweat, tears, and
urination - and simply through our pores. You are losing
water right now, at this very moment, and it needs to be
replaced.

If you increase your water intake to eight glasses per day,
in about a week's time, you will notice that you have more
energy, your mind is clearer, your skin is healthier, and
your food digests easier. Water will help you lose weight,
remove toxins from your body, and help you absorb nutrients
and vitamins.

Not just any water will do, however. You should avoid
drinking tap water. Go with bottled water that has been
purified or better yet, choose bottled spring water that is
all natural. Tap water generally is full of toxins that you
don't want in your body.

Furthermore, aside from your daily eight glasses of water,
you should drink one glass of water for every cup of coffee
or tea you have, as well as for every soda, and one glass
of water for every cigarette you smoke - if you do smoke,
and one glass of water for every glass of an alcoholic
drink that you have. If you have unhealthy habits, you may
find yourself drinking a great deal of water each day to
combat the ill effects of those unhealthy habits!

Blocked Sinus: 4 Ways To Clear It Naturally

Blocked sinus can be a frustrating and irritating
condition.  It may cause difficulty in eating or sleeping.
Blocked sinus can lead to a sinus headache and even
equilibrium problems when the blockage reaches the ear.
While some prescription medications may provide some
relief, natural home remedies can be effective in clearing
a blocked sinus.  The latter do not have any ill side
effects, are non-habit forming and can be used as often as
needed.

Here are 4 natural ways to clear a blocked sinus from the
comfort of your home.

1. Increase humidity
Most sinus blockages and infections occur in the winter
months.  This is the time of year when heating is on and
the doors and windows are closed, making the inside air
very dry.

The easiest fix to this problem is to increase humidity in
the air.  You can use a whole-house humidifier that
attaches to your furnace.  If that is not an option you can
use small room-sized humidifiers throughout the house.
These are inexpensive and can greatly improve humidity
levels.  Be sure to keep the water filled and clean the
containers often to avoid bacteria and mold build up.

Alternatively, boil a large pot of water on the stove.  The
vapor from the boiling water adds humidity to the air.
Another quick fix is to sit in the bathroom with the hot
shower running for 20 minutes or so.

2. Nasal irrigation
This is a method of running sterile water into the nose.
You can buy a small irrigation pot from a health food store
and follow the package directions.  If you need something a
little more portable try using a saline nasal spray. Nasal
irrigation works by cleaning the nasal passages and sinus
cavities of mucus and thereby, assisting the natural
cleaning system of your nasal passages.

3. Warm compress
A wet towel or washcloth can be heated and placed on the
face, over the nose and sinuses. This will help clear the
sinus cavities by loosening the mucus so that it will drain
out more easily.  You can purchase warm compress that can
be heated in the microwave, from health food stores or
pharmacies.

4. Eucalyptus or menthol
Eucalyptus or menthol oil can be used in a steam inhalation
to relieve nasal and sinus congestion, in draining mucus
and relieving pressure. Menthol is derived from peppermint.
It is a natural anesthetic, germicidal and the vapors are
an incredible decongestant.  Eucalyptus oil is a powerful
antiseptic with antibacterial properties. To create an
eucalyptus steam inhalation, pour some boiling water into a
bowl and add 3 drops of eucalyptus oil. Look down, with
your head over the bowl. Cover your head and bowl with a
towel. Close your eyes and inhale the steam slowly for 10
minutes.

You can also put a few drops of eucalyptus on a
handkerchief and sniff periodically.

Each of these natural remedies can be used alone or in
combination with each other to relieve your blocked sinus.
They do not cause complications or harmful effects even if
used in conjunction with drug medications.
